They say good things come in small packages and that’s certainly true of Djerba. This place may be small, but what it lacks in size, it makes up for with glorious sights and deep culture. Djerba’s beautiful, cobbled streets are home to everything you’d expect from Tunisia – whitewashed buildings, twisting, narrow alleys filled with shops selling trinkets, and endless souks offering strong espresso to kick back with and watch the world go by.
The main pull of Djerba is the famous stretch of beach, home to everything you’d expect from a Tunisian shoreline. The sand’s powder soft, the sea’s crystal clear, and the sun’s always got its hat on. Surrounding the shore are plenty of beachside restaurants serving the freshest seafood, barbecued to perfection, and succulent grilled meats. And, of course, strong Tunisian coffee and the flakiest of pastries.
After dark, it’s time to get involved with the local scene and do as the Tunisians do. Djerba’s got more than its fair share of traditional spots where shisha and peppermint tea are top of the menu. And there’s a whole host of top-notch restaurants to choose from, all serving delicious local dishes and homemade sweet treats. Then to finish your evening, there’s live music and dancing to put a full stop on a long day in delightful Djerba.
