Book your flights to Lille between June and September when the weather is at its warmest and you'll get to enjoy the optimal conditions for exploring the city. This is also when Lille is at its liveliest with a full programme of festivities. The spectacular fireworks displays and carnival-like atmosphere of Bastille Day in particular deserve a mention.
To get more of the city to yourself, fly to Lille in May or September. The weather will be mild and pleasant but without the peak summer crowds or its prices. But as France's fourth largest city, you don't need to worry about it being quiet. Travel in September for the historic Braderie, a huge city-wide flea market.
