July and August are the most popular months to fly to Crete and the island does get rather busy during these high summer months. And for good reason. The days are long and sizzling, the nights are balmy and lively, the water's just right and the beaches are calling your name.

Avoid the crowds

For fine weather and a lot more space, fly to Crete in September and October. It's a touch cooler but the weather is dry, sunny and ideal for the beach with the sea holding on to the heat of summer. You'll find better prices for flights and accommodation too. Spring is another good bet, but the weather will be slightly cooler again and there's a chance of showers.
