Santa Maria Holidays

A SLICE OF AFRO-CARIBBEAN PARADISE

Santa Maria is the main tourist hub on the island of Sal within the Cape Verde archipelago. It’s known for its expansive white sandy beaches, with great waves and a prevailing wind that’s ideal for water sports, like windsurfing and sailing.

Get the soft sands of Santa Maria Beach between your toes, or dive into the turquoise waters for swimming, snorkelling, and a spot of surfing. Discover the colourful underwater world teeming with marine life, or simply soak up the sun and enjoy the ocean breeze – life’s a beach, here.

If you can slither off the beach, go and explore the island’s natural beauty, with excursions to attractions like the Pedra de Lume salt crater, where you can float in therapeutic saltwater, or see what the famous Terra Boa mirage is all about. Want to spot some wildlife? Whales, dolphins, sea turtles, and lemon sharks come close to the shores, so have your cameras ready.

Take time to wander through Santa Maria’s vibrant streets, dotted with colourful markets, artisan shops, and lively cafés in colonial style buildings. Savour the flavours of Cape Verdean cuisine at beachfront restaurants and local eateries – expect fresh seafood dishes, traditional stews, and tropical fruits, accompanied by lively music and the island’s signature caipirinha cocktail.

With its stunning beaches, vibrant culture, incredible sea life, and warm hospitality, Santa Maria offers a little slice of paradise 385 miles off the west coast of Africa.
