Strasbourg City Breaks

A pretty French city on the Rhine

Situated in the heart of the Alsace region in north-eastern France, Strasbourg has a charming blend of French and German influences. Known for its iconic half-timbered houses, picturesque canals, and magnificent Gothic cathedral, Strasbourg’s mediaeval charisma and rich history makes for one of the most insta-worthy city breaks going. With landmarks like Ponts Couverts de Strasbourg, Place Kléber, Palais Rohan, and the Historic Wine Cellar of the Strasbourg Hospices, there’s plenty to cram into your trip, and you’ll need a good camera to capture all the beauty.

Take time to explore the historic old town, Grande Île, a UNESCO World Heritage site, where narrow cobblestone streets lead to quaint shops, cosy cafés, and bustling market squares. Stroll round the main square Place Kléber, and don’t miss the chance to visit the iconic Strasbourg Cathedral, with its awe-inspiring architecture and incredible panoramic views from the top. If you’re feeling energetic and you have a comfy pair of shoes on, climb the 332 steps up to the spire’s viewing platform, where you’ll see the red rooftops, the Vosges Mountains and Black Forest in the distance.

For a taste of the local cuisine, indulge in traditional Alsatian dishes, such as tarte flambée and choucroute garnie, at one of the many charming restaurants scattered throughout the city. Experience the city’s unique cultural scene, fascinating museums, and scenic riverfront, and pop over to La Petite France, one of the most photogenic areas of Strasbourg, if not in the whole of Europe, where you can admire the colourful buildings, stop by the cute boutiques, and experience the fairy tale-like charm of this enchanted city.
