Crete’s undisputed party capital is up there with Magaluf and Sunny Beach in the neon-lit nightlife stakes. Its famous strip is tucked just behind the beach, and it’s packed with clubs, pubs and bars that encourage revellers to dance until dawn.

Holidays to Malia aren’t all about the nightlife, though. It’s loved for its beaches – golden sandy stretches which wind along the north-east coast. Favourite swathes include Potomas Beach, which has a sleepier feel than the rest, and Glozanie Beach, where the watersports and thatched bars create a lively atmosphere. 

Check out Malia’s Old Town for scenes of old-world Greece. Its cobbled lanes flaunt Medieval churches and whitewashed cottages that have stood the test of time. Unlike the strip of the town centre, you won’t find a fast food shop or a chain restaurant in sight here – it’s all about independents offering up tastes of the island.
