Kyllini Holidays

A pretty port town on the Peloponnese coast

This classic Greek port town in the northwest corner of the Peloponnese is known for its powdery beaches lapped by the clear waters of the Ionian Sea. Ferries depart from the town, gliding across the waters to the islands of Kefalonia, Poros, and Zakynthos. But if you’re eyeing pristine beaches, you don’t need to leave Kyllini – the Blue Flag Arkoudi beach is a knockout.

If you’re looking to balance beach time with a little history, you’re in luck. This pocket of the Peloponnese is riddled with traces of ancient civilisations. South of Kyllini, you’ll find the legendary Ancient Olympia, where the Olympic Games happened for over a thousand years, and from the Frankish Castle of Chlemoutsi, you can catch views across Kefalonia.

Your Kyllini questions, answered

While many hotel restaurants serve international dishes, don’t miss the chance to sample the fresh local produce when you’re out and about. Olives and oranges are grown in abundance here.

You’ll fly into Kalamata airport, then it’s around a two-hour drive north through the Peloponnese scenery to Kyllini.
You could head south to visit Ancient Olympia or take a day trip to the Ionian Islands. Regular ferries depart from Kyllini.
