A hedonistic spa hotspot in Greece
Just over an hour’s drive from Athens, Loutraki has been a health resort and bath town since antiquity – ‘loutro’ means bath in Greek. Rumour has it that Spartan warriors would come here to soak in the natural thermal waters after long battles. These days, the resort has been thoroughly modernised, down to the man-made waterfalls at the end of town. You won’t see any Spartans on your Loutraki holidays, but you will find a lively, fun city that’s both hedonistic and healthy.
Loutraki has a long beach that’s a vibrant, sociable spot during summertime, and you’re likely to make plenty of new wellness buddies here. In the town itself, it’s worth wandering the pretty streets, shopping for clothes and jewellery, and dining in one of the many excellent restaurants. Whatever you do, you’re sure to take to holidays to Loutraki like a duck to water.
