Garda Holidays

HISTORY AND CHARM ON THE EASTERN SHORE

Surrounded by lush green mountains, the picturesque town of Garda – which shares its name with the lake itself – is one of the earliest settlements established on the water.

Offering a photo-worthy setting on the eastern shore, it’s home to a medieval old town with interesting architecture that spans various historical periods. Expect charming baroque churches, extravagant villas, impressive palaces, and traditional restaurants, many of which come with sweeping views of the lake. Adventurers, meanwhile, can take advantage of the local hiking trails.

However you spend your time in Garda, you can be sure of one thing – lovely scenery from almost every angle.

Your Garda questions, answered

The town of Garda is located halfway up the eastern shore, so it makes a fantastic base for exploring the mountainous northern shore, as well as the southern lakeside towns and the wine regions in the east. You’ll also find plenty to see and do in Garda itself.

Like other resorts around the lake, Garda has a reputation for being expensive. However, if you travel outside of the peak months, from June to August, you’ll find that holidays are more affordable. If you’re looking to save money on food, visit restaurants away from the waterfront, as they tend to be less expensive than those with lake views.

The most popular months to explore Garda are June, July, and August, when temperatures climb to the low 30s, but are kept comfortable by the breeze from the lake. For a quieter experience with milder weather in the low 20s, consider visiting in April, May, or late September. By October, temperatures are much cooler with peaks of 18°C, and the tourists are mostly gone, granting you the opportunity to explore the lanes of the old town at your own pace.
