Sciacca Holidays

Spas, seafood, and carnivals

Located just up the coast from Agrigento, the south-western Sicily town of Sciacca is the perfect destination if you need a little boost to your health and wellbeing. Since the Greek and Roman times, people have been coming here to bathe in the local sulphurous waters, which are said to have healing properties and can still be enjoyed today at several locations around the town.

Added goodness comes from the local diet. Sciacca’s main industry is fishing, and there’s no shortage of seafood restaurants serving the freshest catches of the day, which include squid, swordfish, and crayfish. Early-risers can also pop to the bustling port first thing in the morning, where the comings and goings of the fishing boats provides a great spectacle.

Sciacca’s biggest draw, however, is its annual carnival. Taking place in the lead-up to Lent, the celebrations comprise several days of music and dressing-up, as well as plenty of eating and drinking. After such a full-on feast of dancing and indulgence, you’ll be glad to have those healing waters on your doorstep.
