Make like the locals and wander down the tree-shaded Viale dei Pini to Sant’Agnello’s main piazza, which was created a century ago and features a beautiful old church.

Promenade down pedestrianised Corso Italia, check out the boutiques, dine in a trattoria and see the impressive marquetry displays at the Museo Bottega della Tarsia Lignea in an 18th-century palace.
Head further afield
A spectacular cable-car ride takes you to the summit of Monte Faito at Castellammare di Stabia, where you’ll also find the remains of Roman villas.

Where can I go by boat?

Ferries run from nearby Sorrento to Naples and the chic island of Capri. In summer, there are also services to Positano, Amalfi, Ischia and Procida.

What should I eat?

Trattoria staples include gnocchi with tomato and mozzarella, spaghetti with clams, fried calamari and shrimps, and, of course, pizza. Take a seat on the pavement and watch the world go by.

Is it fun for kids?

This is a great area to explore with children, especially the beaches, and most of the town’s restaurants offer a ‘mezzo piatto’ (half plate) to junior diners.
