Stunning views and pizza by the metre
Holidays to Vico Equense promise grandstand views of the Bay of Naples and Mount Vesuvius – a result of this coastal town’s clifftop setting. It’s only 10 kilometres from Sorrento, so it’s often overlooked in favour of its more famous neighbour. But this historical town is worth way more than just a stopover.
Vico Equense is packed with Baroque churches, dinky gelato cafés and restaurants serving ‘pizza a metro’ – pizza cut by the metre. Vico Equense is famous for it, courtesy of chef Gigino Dell’Amura, who first served it in his eatery in the Thirties. The Gigino pizzeria is still going strong today, and it’s a real must-visit. Fine dining is also a big deal in these parts – Vico Equense has one of the biggest concentrations of Michelin-starred restaurants in Italy.
Despite its high-up location, this place also deals in beautiful beaches. Walk down the steep slopes or catch a bus to the sleepy coves carved out of the rockface below.
