Luxurious hotel steeped in history
It’s no surprise that the Grand Hotel Baglioni has seen more than its fair share of movie stars pass through its doors. With its grand interiors and impeccable service, it’s a seriously classy establishment. Add to that its location right in the centre of Florence, and you’re looking at an unbeatable stay.
Prepare to be wowed when you set foot on the hotel’s showstopper of a roof terrace, where you’ll get incredible views of the city’s gorgeous architecture. You’ll find the restaurant and bar up there, too. Just as with everything else at this hotel, the cuisine is served with a touch of class. Try the linguine with smoked cheese fondue, or the baked rack of lamb – or both!
The palatial rooms are exquisitely decorated with dark parquet floors, wooden furnishings, brass lamps and velvet drapes. They might look historical but they still come with all modern comforts, including Wi-Fi, air conditioning, and a television. Best of all, the contents of the minbar are included – so get stuck in!

What Grand Hotel Baglioni has to offer
The Medici Chapels
Part of Florence's San Lorenzo church, these chapels are a magnificent testament to the Medici family's power and artistic patronage during the Renaissance. Built in the 16th and 17th centuries, they feature the opulent New Sacristy, designed by Michelangelo, showcasing his sculptures 'Dawn,' 'Dusk,' 'Day,' and 'Night.' Located less than a 10-minute walk from the hotel, it’s a fantastic opportunity to see the work of one of art's greatest masters.
Florence Cathedral
The Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore is an iconic masterpiece of Italian Gothic architecture that looms over the city, and it’s just a five-minute walk from the hotel. Renowned for its magnificent red-tiled dome, engineered by Filippo Brunelleschi, it took over 140 years to build. The cathedral’s exterior is adorned with a mesmerising mix of pink, white, and green marble, which embodies the opulence of the Renaissance era. Inside, you’ll find exquisite artworks, including frescoes and stained glass, that attract millions of visitors each year.
Food & drink
Tuscan food is some of the best in Italy and you’ll be spoilt for choice during your stay – Florence is packed with family-run trattorias, pizzerias and high-end ristorantes. The food is known for its flavour and simplicity, and is made using seasonal produce from the surrounding region. The city’s most famous dish is the enormous florentine steak, but for the more adventurous there’s trippa alla fiorentina – tripe with tomato sauce and vegetables. A delicacy not for the faint of heart!
