What Royal San Marco has to offer
St Mark’s Basilica
St Mark's Basilica is a golden-domed cathedral dating back to the 11th century. It sits at the east end of the city centre, just a short walk from the hotel and Doge's Palace. Inside, you'll see gold mosaics, great works of Renaissance art from Titian and Tintoretto, and a stunning golden altar decorated with over 2,000 precious stones. There's also a museum with items and treasures from the 13th-century crusades.
Murano
Home to Venice’s famed glass-making industry, the island of Murano is well worth a visit. Learn about the rich history of glass-making in the Museo del Vetro, or take a tour of a glass-blowing factory and watch delicate ornaments being handmade by skilled artisans. The island is a 25-minute journey from Piazza San Marco by water bus, or your concierge can book you onto a tour to make your trip even easier.
Rialto Market
The world-famous Rialto Market is foodie heaven. It runs along the Grand Canal at the northwest tip of the Rialto Bridge, which is only a seven-minute walk from the hotel. A feast for the senses, it has hundreds of stalls selling piles of brightly coloured cherries, peaches, tomatoes, and artichokes. It's the perfect place to pick up supplies if you're planning a picnic. You'll find the best cuts of meats and freshest seafood in Venice here. And don't be afraid to ask for samples – trying before you buy is all part of the fun.
