Experience Egypt – a portal to a bygone era

Ancient Egypt’s most important city by a country mile has an unmatched sense of grandeur and history. To say Luxor is an extraordinary place is an understatement, where sun-kissed temples and tombs rise like giants from the desert landscape.

The mighty Nile slices Luxor in two. The Egyptians built their capital to reflect their cosmology, so the ancient places of the living (Karnak and the Temple of Luxor) lie on one riverbank, while the opposite is reserved for the dead, where you’ll find the Valley of the Queens and the Valley of the Kings. And at the heart of it all, snaking its way through the city and beyond, is the river – the lifeblood of ancient Egypt. And so, what better way to experience the abundance of rich culture and history found along its banks than with a river cruise? Equal parts history and holiday, you can split your time between sipping cocktails on deck and delving into the region's extraordinary past.

Amid all this fabulous history, there is still a Luxor of the here and now to get to know. The colourful bazaars are a feast for the eyes, with merchants hawking their wares and weaving their magic on you with persuasive sales pitches. Just remember to haggle!
