SPARKLING SHORES AND SOUL-STIRRING VIEWS

Set on the southernmost point of the serene island of Alonissos in the Sporades archipelago, Marpunta offers a tranquil retreat in the Aegean. Known for its stunning natural beauty and clear blue waters, Marpunta offers the perfect holiday recipe of relaxation and adventure, making it a must-visit destination on this less-travelled Greek island.

The highlight of Marpunta is its pristine beaches, characterised by crystal-clear waters and pebbly shores surrounded by lush greenery. These beaches are perfect for swimming, snorkelling, and sunbathing, providing a secluded and relaxing environment away from the crowds. Hikers will love the well-signposted web of walking trails and there are boat trips to explore the marine park surrounding the island – keep your eyes peeled for the Mediterranean monk seal and even the occasional dolphin.

The village of Marpunta itself is charming and low-key, with a selection of tavernas and cafés offering traditional Greek dishes, fresh seafood, and local wines. The welcoming atmosphere makes it an ideal spot to enjoy a meal while soaking in the stunning sea views. Marpunta serves as an excellent base for exploring the rest of Alonissos. The island is renowned for its unspoiled nature, hiking trails, and picturesque old town, Alonissos Town (Chora), which offers panoramic views and a glimpse into traditional Greek island life.

If you’re looking to escape the hustle and bustle, Marpunta offers a perfect combination of natural beauty, tranquillity, and authentic Greek culture. Whether you’re lounging on the beach, exploring the underwater world, or savouring local cuisine, Marpunta promises a memorable and rejuvenating experience.

Your Marpunta questions, answered

It depends on your itinerary. You’d probably want a minimum of three to four days to enjoy the beach, the tavernas, the walks, and the water activities.

There are plenty of beaches and lots of hiking trails that are signposted on the island. In around 30 minutes, you can walk to Patitiri, the capital town of the island of Alonissos.
If you’re a sun worshipper, the best time to visit the island is between June and September, but these are also the busiest months. April, May, September and October are more relaxing windows to visit.
