Steni Vala Holidays

An authentic Greek island experience

Olive groves, pine trees, and a rugged, picture-perfect coastline? The charming village of Steni Vala on the eastern coast of Alonissos has all this – and more. Lauded for its tranquil atmosphere and impressive natural beauty, this place is perfect if you're planning a peaceful retreat away from the popular heaving tourist resorts. It's the epitome of the cute Greek island village; and you'll love it.

All roads lead to the small, serene harbour that sits at the heart of things. Colourful fishing boats bob gently on the crystal-clear Aegean Sea and the waterfront is lined with traditional tavernas and local cafés dishing up freshly caught seafood and local delicacies. Scope out a spot with a view and settle in for a drink – pure bliss.

There's far more than laid-back lunches and lazy afternoons to be found here, though. The area is known for its pristine beaches, with Glifa Beach being a firm favourite thanks to its clear waters and unspoiled setting. Offshore, meanwhile the National Marine Park of Alonissos and Northern Sporades is not only home to the endangered Mediterranean monk seal, but is a veritable treasure trove of archaeological finds. From birdwatching and snorkelling to hiking through the nearby landscape, this particular spot offers plenty in the way of opportunities to indulge a bit of eco-friendly tourism.

Whether you're lounging by the sea, dining on delicious local cuisine, or exploring the island's natural wonders, Stena Vala provides an authentic and serene Greek island experience.

Your Steni Vala questions, answered

Alonissos doesn’t have its own airport, so to get there, you’ll have to fly to Skiathos, a neighbouring island in the west Aegean Sea, then get a ferry over.

The pretty little village of Kalamakia is just up the road, a four-minute drive, to be precise. If you’re hiring a car, then you can drive the coastal roads or go inland with ease.
The best time to visit is from April to early October, when you’ll get the sunniest – but also hottest – window to visit. Take your factor 50, it gets hot in the summer!
