Spectacular scenery and Montenegro go hand-in-hand. Holidays to Perast, whose terracotta-roofed houses and soaring church squires cling to the hillside in the picturesque Bay of
Kotor, are no different. The views here are superb – the outlook is one of glittering Adriatic Sea waters and the snow-capped peaks that surround them. In the middle of the bay there are two islets – St George and Our Lady of the Rocks. The former is centred on a Benedictine monastery, the latter a Catholic church and a fascinating museum.
Perast has the feel of a Venetian town, with Baroque palaces and 16 age-old churches. It’s got just one street, which winds along the waterfront, freckled with palms and bougainvillea. You’ll find a few restaurants here, serving up tasty Montenegrin delicacies and sea views. One dates all the way back to the 12th century, and has a cave-like interior.
