July and August are when Bari is at its busiest. Fly into the city during these months for primetime on the beaches and inviting sea temperatures. The long daylight hours mean you can fit in plenty of sightseeing and many of Bari's attractions will have extended opening hours - although you might see queues at the most popular sites such as San Nicola Basilica and Castello Svevo.
For hot but comfortable days and cooler night time temperatures, fly to Bari in May or June. The mild weather is perfect for exploring the Alta Murgia National Park and you'll find much more elbow space at the city's most popular attractions. September and October are similar months to visit.
Bari is a must-visit for food lovers. Aside from visiting its various restaurants to sample authentic Italian cuisine, consider booking a rickshaw to get a great tour of the city before being dropped off at a local's house where you can learn to make its unique pasta, orecchiette, yourself!
Otherwise, a trip to this Puglian destination won't be complete without exploring the millennia-old Bari Vecchia. Start your journey at the Piazza del Ferrarese, the centre of Bari that sits on the outskirts of the old town. You can then head over to the Norman Swabian Castle built on the foundations of an older Byzantine building, stop by to see the relics of Father Christmas himself at the Basilica di San Nicola, and even explore archaeological sites like the Roman columns at Santa Maria del Buon Consiglio.
