Why fly to Lanzarote?
Lanzarote flights land you on the fourth largest of the Canary Islands, in a beautiful sun-soaked paradise. The island is small enough to travel across in under two hours, and has less than 200,000 residents.
With a mixture of quiet, peaceful villages and lively, exciting tourist resorts, anyone can find what they’re looking for when they book Lanzarote return flights.
The Beaches on Lanzarote
The beaches on Lanzarote do not disappoint. Unlike many of its neighbours in the archipelago, most of the beaches on Lanzarote have golden or white sand, which gives the beautiful shores an almost Caribbean feel. The white sand and perfectly clear water make it a great place to spend a day relaxing, soaking up the sun or swimming. Papagayo Beach is a favourite for families because its enclosed bay protects the shore from waves and currents, creating a very still sea that’s safe for children to play in and great for snorkelling. If you’re looking for a bit more drama, you can still find black sand beaches on the island including the impressive Quemada beach, as well as some of the best beaches in Spain for sea kayaking or surfing.
Adventure activities on Lanzarote
If you’re looking for a more active holiday experience, check out the many excursions on offer across the island. Dune-buggy over volcanoes, or go mountain biking across moon-like landscapes. For a more slow-paced but memorable adventure, try hiking the well-known Caldera Blanca trail, a 6 mile loop that allows for exploring a massive volcanic creater and for stunning views from the top. Lanzarote’s climate and landscape make it a fantastic location for all these and more, and there’s an adventure waiting for any visitor.
Wineries in Lanzarote
Lanzarote is known for being largely unable to grow crops due to the volcanic nature of the landscape, but this rich dark soil is actually ideal for cultivating grapes! Disovering the wines of Lanzarote is a must. Farmers in the area of La Geria, covered in volcanic rock, have been using a unique cone-shaped method to grow grapes for centuries, and the unique vineyards in this region are definitely worth seeing. Spend a very enjoyable day hopping from tasting to tasting at a number of wineries around the region.
Dining in Lanzarote
Are you interested in good food? Head out to the Timanfaya National Park to get a look at the awesome volcano and lava fields. You can have your steak and fish cooked on volcanic rock heated by the lava underneath. By adding water, a discharge of steam is produced that’ll cook your meal just the way you like it. If you aren’t feeling too adventurous, then finding a local tapas restaurant is the best option. Don’t forget to try mojo potatoes, the national dish of Lanzarote.
