Lanzarote is known for being largely unable to grow crops due to the volcanic nature of the landscape, but this rich dark soil is actually ideal for cultivating grapes! Disovering the wines of Lanzarote is a must. Farmers in the area of La Geria, covered in volcanic rock, have been using a unique cone-shaped method to grow grapes for centuries, and the unique vineyards in this region are definitely worth seeing. Spend a very enjoyable day hopping from tasting to tasting at a number of wineries around the region.
Dining in Lanzarote
Are you interested in good food? Head out to the Timanfaya National Park to get a look at the awesome volcano and lava fields. You can have your steak and fish cooked on volcanic rock heated by the lava underneath. By adding water, a discharge of steam is produced that’ll cook your meal just the way you like it. If you aren’t feeling too adventurous, then finding a local tapas restaurant is the best option. Don’t forget to try mojo potatoes, the national dish of Lanzarote.
