Sample the local cuisine
While international favourites like pizzas, burgers and chips are widely available, the local dishes are not to be missed. As you’d expect on an island, there’s an abundance of fantastic fresh fish, while delicious Greek classics like lamb kleftiko are skilfully prepared. Why not try the Skiathos variant of stifado, which uses monkfish instead of beef?
Pack your hiking boots
With so many beautiful beaches on offer, you could easily spend your whole holiday by the sea. But with 130 miles of specially marked out hiking routes, including the 30-mile ‘Skiathos Trail’, a hike through the hills is definitely worthwhile. Breathe in salty-fresh air as you wander through shaded forests and finish the day with a well-earned drink at a taverna in a secluded cove.
Hop on a bus
Skiathos has an excellent bus network. It’s cheap to get around and, while most signs are in Greek, the drivers are used to tourists and happy to help out with information if you need it.

When is the best time to visit?

Skiathos has a typical Mediterranean climate, with hot summers and mild winters. Sea temperatures average around 23C from June right through to October, while April is the driest month.

Does Skiathos have good nightlife?

Skiathos Town comes alive at night. You’ll discover plenty of buzzing cocktail bars tucked away in its charming streets. There’s also a great LGBTQ+ scene – try De Facto bar, which is close to the harbour.

How long does it take to get to Skiathos?
